Mushara Outpost: luxury tented accommodation near Etosha
Mushara Outpost is an intimate lodge about ten kilometres from the Von Lindequist Gate on the eastern side of Etosha National Park. Modelled on a welcoming African homestead, its central farmhouse has high walls, a corrugated roof and a broad shaded veranda. The atmosphere is quiet and personal rather than formal.
Eight wood-and-canvas tents stand along an ancient dry riverbed, known locally as an omuramba, and accommodate a maximum of 16 guests. The small scale works particularly well for couples and adult travellers who want privacy within easy reach of Etosha. The property is not wheelchair friendly, so guests with mobility concerns should request detailed access information before booking.
Mushara safari tents and private decks
Each custom-made tent is raised about 1.5 metres on a wooden deck. A large sliding glass door and floor-to-ceiling screened windows provide light and air while maintaining protection from insects. The private veranda looks into the surrounding woodland and is a comfortable place for coffee or quiet time between outings.
Inside, the tents have mosquito-netted beds, air-conditioning, a minibar, tea and coffee station, safe, telephone, hairdryer and charging sockets. The open-plan bathroom includes a glass shower and separate enclosed toilet. Canvas panels can be adjusted around the shower view, allowing guests to choose their preferred level of openness and privacy.
Facilities at this eastern Etosha lodge
The main farmhouse contains the lounge, reception, dining spaces and a collection of books. Meals can be served indoors or on the wrap-around veranda, depending on weather and arrangements. The kitchen incorporates produce from the Mushara garden when available, and dietary requirements should be shared before arrival.
Pool and downtime at Mushara Outpost
A swimming pool and loungers offer a useful pause after a warm day in Etosha. There is also an outdoor fireplace and a bird hide near the main area. Wi-Fi is available around the lodge building rather than throughout every tent, and mobile reception can be limited.
Game drives from Mushara Outpost
Guests can book morning or afternoon guided drives into Etosha in open safari vehicles. The guides use local knowledge and recent wildlife information to choose a route, but animals remain free-ranging and no sighting can be promised. Independent travellers may also self-drive through the nearby eastern gate.
Dinner, bed and breakfast is one rate option. Fully inclusive packages generally add lunch, selected local drinks, laundry and two scheduled Etosha drives. Inclusions, park fees and activity times can change, so we will confirm the exact basis shown on your quotation.
Planning a Mushara Outpost stay
Children aged twelve and older are accepted and charged at adult rates. The raised decks, intimate layout and adult-oriented atmosphere make the lodge better suited to couples and older family members than young children. Pack closed shoes, sun protection and a warm outer layer for early open-vehicle drives.
